At present, electronic component suppliers around the world have increased their research on the application of capacitive touch ICs and launched numerous professional chips (referred to as touch chips in this article). There are also many ICs based on MCU integration. Designers have a large selection space and can choose ICs that are suitable for their design needs based on functional requirements and chip cost-effectiveness, or they can design their own MCU based A/D ports to implement touch ICs. The factors to consider when choosing a touch chip include: technology, quality, delivery time, cost, and environmental protection.
There are currently two main types of touch chips used, one is resistive and the other is capacitive. Due to its higher reliability, capacitive capacitors have been widely used. At present, single touch is a common and commonly used method for products that use touch chips.
With the continuous development of touch chip ICs, various forms of touch buttons have appeared in our daily household appliances, such as scroll and slider buttons, which have enriched the applications of touch chips. With the further development of technology, touch chips are no longer just simple button processing chips. They can now be used as a main MCU to handle not only touch buttons but also AD sampling, LED control, communication, and more. Previously, to achieve touch button functionality, two chips were required, one touch chip and one main MCU. Now, only one touch chip is needed to solve the problem, reducing product costs and allowing more products to use touch button technology.
After integrating the sensing touch chip into MCU, the detection of keys has become more flexible, and matrix scanning or AD sampling can be used. This allows for the recognition of more and more keys. Previously, it may have required several touch chips to complete, but now a new touch chip can fully meet the requirements. At present, the integration degree of touch chips has been increasing. Touch chips can be used as both the main MCU and touch buttons, which makes the cost-effectiveness of touch chips higher and lower. It can be seen that the application of touch chips will become increasingly widespread.
